The Enfield Voice Returns:
47 Years of Unanswered Knocking

Case No. 041 — North London, England

Dimly lit Victorian hallway with shadows suggesting presence, atmospheric paranormal investigation

"The knocking came in sets of four. Always four. The investigators counted 1,500 distinct events over eleven months."

— Field Notes, Nov 1977

In 1977, a council house in Enfield became the most documented poltergeist case in British history. New audio evidence has surfaced. We went back.

The Enfield Voice Returns

47 Years of Unanswered Knocking

"The voice on the tape was not Janet's. The investigators had excluded every known explanation by month three. What remained was the impossible."
— Maurice Grosse, SPR Field Notes, 1978

In August 1977, the Hodgson family reported furniture moving, knocking, and a gravel-voiced entity claiming to be a former resident named Bill. Over eleven months, the Society for Psychical Research documented 1,500 anomalous events. New audio analysis using 2024 spectral tools has isolated a voice component that does not match any known human vocal range. We went back to the house. The current residents wouldn't let us in. They didn't need to.

The Calvine Photograph

Scotland, 1990 — The RAF Image They Buried for 32 Years

"The Ministry of Defence held the negatives for 32 years. When they finally released the image in 2022, the object in the frame had no classification in any known aircraft registry."
— Nick Pope, Former MoD UFO Desk, 2022

Two hikers photographed a large, diamond-shaped craft hovering above the A9 road near Calvine. The RAF confirmed the photos were genuine. The MoD confiscated the originals and classified the file until 2022. When the image emerged, aviation analysts noted the craft's geometry was inconsistent with any prototype in the public record. We tracked down the surviving witness. He'd been waiting 32 years to talk.

Skinwalker Ranch: Year Three

What the Cattle Mutilations Left Behind

"The incisions were surgical. No blood pooled. No tracks around the carcass. The nearest road was four miles away. The veterinary report used the word "inexplicable" three times."
— Dr. C. Layton, Utah State Veterinary Pathology, 1996

The Sherman family sold the ranch in 1996 after three years of encounters they refused to fully describe on record. The new owners, NIDS, documented 100 anomalous events in the first eighteen months. We obtained the original Sherman family journals through a source we cannot name. The entries for September through November 1994 have been partially redacted — by the family themselves, with scissors.

Lab Recordings from the Princeton Anomaly Trials

"Subject 7 described a red barn with a broken weathervane. The target image — sealed, unviewed — was a photograph of a red barn in Vermont. The weathervane was broken."
— PEAR Lab Internal Report, Session 7-C, 1983

Between 1979 and 2007, the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research lab ran 3,000 trials testing remote viewing and psychokinesis. Their results showed a statistically significant anomaly they couldn't explain. The lab was quietly shut down. We obtained internal session recordings through a former researcher. Some of the transcripts are difficult to explain away.

Dyatlov Pass: New Evidence

What the Soviet Files Didn't Destroy

"The tent was cut from the inside. They ran into −30°C darkness in socks. One body had injuries consistent with a car crash. There was no car."
— Case File Fragment, 1959 — Recovered 2019

Nine experienced hikers died on Kholat Syakhl in February 1959. The official Soviet investigation was closed with the cause listed as "unknown compelling force." In 2019, Russia reopened the case and concluded "avalanche." Former investigators we spoke with — two of whom asked not to be named — disagree.

◆ About the Dispatch

The strange deserves
the same rigor as anything else.

Séance is a weekly podcast for people who find the conventional explanations unsatisfying — not because they want to believe, but because the evidence doesn't always cooperate with belief.

Each episode investigates one case. We read the original documents. We speak to surviving witnesses. We apply the same methodological standards you'd expect from a serious investigation. And when we can't explain something, we say so — plainly, without embellishment.

"The most honest thing you can say about some of these cases is: we don't know. And we find that more interesting than any answer."
